The Farm
Hopetoun Road,St Werburghs, BS2 9YL, Bristol
Your stomach is laden down with the sediment from countless beers and whiskeys from a booze-drenched Saturday night. Your mouth feels like a vole ? or perhaps a shrew ? has crawled inside and perished.
All you need is a huge plate of meat and veg, dowsed in gravy, to bring you back to your usual extraordinarily fine health, and the Farm is the place to get it. Found in the sleepy surburb of St Wurburghs, thought it looks far on the map, it?s really no more than ten minutes walk from Stokes Croft if you bumble through the magnificent allotments.
The lunch is a massive serving of lamb or beef ? locally sourced of course ? with a bowl of veg, including the often-overlooked red cabbage, all drenched in lashings of wonderfully fatty gravy. The city farm situated next door makes a pleasant backdrop as gleeful city urchins run amongst the animals, and I?ve been personally assured that none of the animals is slaughtered to stock the Farm?s larder. With this is mind, is there any excuse not to go along?
