Cafe Kino
3 Ninetree Hill , BS1 3SB, Bristol
Caf? Kino is a great entry-point to the hippified, smoke-filled area of Montpelier, as it symbolises everything that the area tries to be.
Friendly (in a weirdly desperate sort of way) staff are happy to spit rhymes of the vegan variety all day with anyone who cares to listen. It?s easy to criticise vegan joints as the food is usually absolutely dire, but Kino actually produces some good dishes sans dairy.
The specials board changes frequently enough to keep you coming back, and the outside tables ? although close to a busy set of lights ? are a pleasure to sit at and watch the comings and goings on Ashley road. Drink selection is limited, but you can get some decent organic-type offerings of booze and the tea and coffee is excellent.
There are lots of interesting shops within spitting distance for you to wander round post-Kino, and the breathless struggle up uber-steep Nine Tree hill is worth it to take in the wonderful view from the gardens of Freemantle Square. With all this nearby, Kino makes a lovely little place for an afternoon?s chilling
